What is this… WHAT EVEN IS THIS?!

    • penguintruth

Heh. Interesting fake-out, Sage. I’d honestly never heard of this one. What an odd one. It’s too bad you couldn’t drag Spoony into watching this like with Space Thunder Kids… but that would mean Spoony actually doing something.

      • Cameron Ward

why would anyone want to go through the hassle to drag that deadbeat into a review?

        • DarkNacht

Because when Spoony justs nuts up and put in the work his reviews are great, but I guess you are right that its probably not worth the effort for anyone to do a cross over with him even if they could get him to agree to it.

          • Cameron Ward

he’s poison. He’s bad vibes and all that stuff. He’s not worth the trouble and would look bad if anyone supported him. If this was maybe 7 or 9 years ago then yeah he would be worth a hoot, but not anymore

            • hariman

Spoony was incredibly entertaining in his prime, but I honestly think that the grind for videos and the toxic fandom that gathered around him, as well as his obsession with politics have burned him out on making reviews.

I’m not sure if Noah will ever be Spoony again, as he’s done so little in so long.

    • Cameron Ward

well…that was something..glad i’m not into this kind of schlock. can’t wait to see what happens in Toonami Month II!

    • Fiery Little One

… How could Suave mistake this for *any* version of Dragon Ball…?

      • hariman

He’s that stupid, and blinded by the tears of his realization of being a horrible person. Plus, you know, he’s really, really, REALLY fixated on his almost nonexistent love life.

        • Fiery Little One

          … You have a point.

      • Neon

Lots and lots of booze, realization of how horrible he is, pussy on the brain, and Sage’s writing. That’s how.

        • Fiery Little One

          I suppose that makes sense.

    • DarkNacht

Does Sage really think there will be a next August or is this just his way of copping out again.

      • hariman

He means this August, because computer malfunction/breakage slowed the release of the episode.

Also, I’m pretty sure there will be another August. I’m not sure about a certain recalcitrant other country though.

    • Jesse Shearer

So, this Toonami Month II thing is August 2017, or did that mean August 2018? I’m sure I’m not the only one confused by that ending. Either way, glad to hear there’s some real-live, honest to god Dragon Ball coming up after this cheap knockoff.

And with regard to Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, well, I gotta wonder if liking this game makes me a bad fan of the Final Fantasy series. It’s certainly not the greatest game ever, and it may not even really be Final Fantasy outside of the marketing, but I still enjoy the game to this day. So much so that one of my favorite Text Play runs on my blog is a playthrough of MQ (starting here http://jmshearersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/09/text-play-final-fantasy-mystic-quest.html and lasting for a total of two dozen “issues”). So, I’m actually looking forward to that, too, should Bennett do something with it.

      • hariman

This was filmed in July, and it was supposed to be released before August. We’re just getting it a bit late, so the outtro is off, but it’s still this month for the return of Toonami Month.

        • Jesse Shearer

OK. Thanks. Wasn’t entirely sure, but that makes sense.

    • hariman

No! Don’t taunt the internet! It’s more dangerous than Happy Fun Ball! You might not even have a week before that smutty fanfic is in your email… haunting your nightmares!

OH! World’s Strongest HYPE! Toonami month HYPE!

And a massive Nope Train that goes “Nope-a-nope Nope-a-nope” instead of “Chug-a-chug” for the dragonball knockoff!

Also, yeah, a lot of Dragonball was banter and the heroes/villains goofing around while fighting each other, but it was also actually entertaining and likable too! ;D

    • Cameron Ward

Mystic Quest isn’t the worlst FF game. FF13 and its sequels are worse. and FFII is the worst one of the bunch and i mean the actual FFII

      • Eli Herold

Beware the road. It may deviate once in a while, but it always comes back to the main part. I miss Spoony’s reviews.

        • hariman

Yeah. His reviews were great, but he seems to have burnt out on the internet review scene very badly.

It’s been years since most of his content, and given how I’ve seen other cases of burnout this bad go, it might be years before he does anything more, if ever, sadly. :/

          • Spike Prime

Do bear in mind though, the man claimed he was going to make a “Spoony movie” and was paid thousands of dollars (if I recall correctly, more than ten thousand) to make the thing, then in the two years since his announcement that it was happening, he’s yet to update anyone on any progress being made.
Intentionally or not, the man has now officially scammed his audience out of their money, and he’s still getting $600 a month to do nothing but make twitter posts.

I wouldn’t mind the lack of progress so much if he just made a video explaining it, but he hasn’t. I empathise with his depression, physical health and stress-related issues, I myself suffer similarly. But sympathy can only go so far when faced with the reality of his actions and inaction.

            • hariman

              That is true.

Hopefully, he comes back to making online reviews and The Spoony Movie, but I’m honestly not sure if he’ll ever come back to online reviews/media.

            • Will Schutte III

Maybe online reviews one of these days, but I doubt he’ll make a movie let alone has the money at this point to make a movie

            • Cameron Ward

Apparently, he’s doing so badly, he lost his house. I want to feel bad for him, but I just can’t. I’m sorry, but he dug his own grave and sympathy will only take you so far before people grow tired of it.

            • Will Schutte III

he did? I heard its possible but he didn’t give any info on it

            • Cameron Ward

I don’t know what he’s doing to keep the lights on, but i know it’s not being a good person or making quality content.

            • Will Schutte III

and live streams of games but still….. not really worth it at much as I want to help spoony. I can’t pay money for nothing I don’t have the money to do that, nor do I think it would be a good idea to give him money. It tells reviewers that you can get by with simpler content and still get a passable monthly check with a job

            • Spike Prime

My favourites have always been his Phantasmagoria and Ultima videos. Phantasmagoria just because I think his commentary was hilarious, and the Ultima game reviews because his passion and drive to talk about one of the most genuinely intriguing ongoing series’ (until 8&9) was both funny and interesting to see.

Granted, when I was a kid I loved the FF-X and X-2 vids, but when I got older, I started preferring the more analytical reviews than the shouty-screamy ones.

    • Will Schutte III

now here is what you do sage you tape open both eyelids and make suave watch every episode of dragonball z. I SENSE A SAGE GAME REVIEW BEING REVIVED!!!!!!!!!!

    • jesternario

It’s a shame he could drag spooky into this one.

    • NickyT

Did anyone else notice the Steve Miller Band sound byte that they stole as well?

    • Eli Herold

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a well developed Korean character as part of the main cast of an anime? Koreans get so much shit from the Japanese.

      • Seiya Meteorite

But wasn’t Loran from Turn A Gundam voiced by Romi Park, a Korean-Japanese actress?

        • Eli Herold

I was talking about characters rather than the actors. Is the character Loran Korean? I’ve never seen “Gundum”; so I don’t know. Plus, I particularly meant Zainichi Koreans, that is Koreans who are born in Japan. I apologize for not being specific enough. But that is still interesting. I’ll look her up.

          • Seiya Meteorite

            Oh, I see. It’s fine.

No, Loran wasn’t Korean, Loran was part of a people called the “Moonrace” that lived on the moon in that particular series.

            • Eli Herold

Okay. I looked up Romi Park. Damn, that’s a filmography. I’m surprised she did so many male roles, especially Edward from “Fullmetal Alchemist”. I have yet to see “Kill la Kill”, although I think the fact that the character Ragyo is an incestuous child molester is incredibly stupid. But I’ve heard so much good things about it that I will give it a watch in the near future. Right now I watching “Death Note” so I can compare it to the Netflix movie.

            • Seiya Meteorite

I’ve heard the Netflix movie sucked big time, I still have yet to see Death Note myself though (heard it’s great though and I’ve seen funny parodies with it).
