Sometimes, good anime needs to overcome itself, and Read Or Die is one such anime.

Yeah I remember way back in 03 when I saw this, i didn’t really get the bad guys. They were cool, but something did feel missing from the overarching plot
I know some people are gonna be like “derp gotta read the source material” but to me, i rather the film, anime, ova, show, whatever to be a good show first, and then worry about it being adapted to said form.
great review. Love hearing about good anime.
w00t! GitS 2: Innocence!
Also, R.o.D. was pretty damn good. … But what is it with Japan make misanthropic villains? Just seems weird to me.
As opposed to the west which tends to just make villains evil for the sake of evil?
Nah villains in the west tend to be motivated out or a combination of excessive greed andor pride tipping toward the sociopathic, or mental derangement, not nihilistic, existential, angst.
The ROD OVA and TV are both great series that I feel really compliment one another. One of my favorite series which I’ve owned for years since seeing it on Anime Unleashed.
Also, seems like we found Bennett’s wiafu…. I feel dirty just writing that…
Also, Terry Mcginnis is not a clone, he’s technically Bruce Wayne’s biological son. Born of his reproductive DNA with Terry’s mom, after said DNA was injected into Terry’s would be father.
After watching the review I jumped straight to Amazon. This honestly looked awesome.
I did a review video of this last year myself and basically I agree with what you’ve said, in that this is an OVA that overcomes itself to become enjoyable.
Whew! I’m finally all caught up. Thanks for doing the review of most of these (yep, Violence Jack doesn’t count!), it’s been quite informative and a lot of fun.
Do you take suggestions? I feel like the last ten or so episodes have been too positive (except for De:Vadasy, and you were too kind on that one – it deserved a fiery death). Could you do Kannazuki no Miko/Destiny of the Shrine Maiden? That is one incoherent, rambling, absolutely despicable POS, and fits every guideline: released in 2004, dubbed, 12 episode series, easily available. Heck, if it came to that, I could get you a copy (not this month, though, I’ve got bills to pay T_T ).
Also, since you’ve reviewed Tomino’s worst anime, maybe you could do the second worst, Brain Powerd, which I’m guessing you own. By dog is that series awful! Not even the masterful score by Yoko Kanno can save it, and it’s one of her finest.
Anyways, good luck with the next round of AA, I’m looking forward to it.
oh the power of paper cuts!!!
