It’s exactly what you think it is. And that’s a good thing.
Check out Elastic Ink’s new comic HERE
Yikes, you’re right, for an OVA, this looks really shoddily done, in terms of production value. One of the advantages of OVAs is supposed to be taking time and crafting something of a higher quality, but even a moderately budgeted TV show would have scraped this off its shoe.
Bennett is sick?
He said he was sick on his Twitter. Doesn’t seem serious, though.
What’s with that finger jive on the “muscle man” quote? Are you channeling Egg Shen taking on Lo Pan in Big Trouble in Little China?
Sorry, I did NOT expect links to blow apart the comments. Tee hee. No, seriously, did not expect that.
Wait … sooooo, he’s being kidnapped by Agent 47? … I’m not sure I’m knowledgeable enough about anime to get that post-credit sequence. >.>;
I think you’ll find he’s doing something with Nostalgia Critic.
7:43 Move Over Diehard, THIS is how you attack people with your crotch!
interesting review. Kind fo a bummer we have to wait until April to see what happened to you, but hopefully it will be worth it.
can’t wait to see if you do any Nuts and Bolts
…Why do I feel that there’s a Beavis and Butthead reference missing around 5:40? O__o
I noticed most of the swastikas were angled wrong for a lot of the characters in this. A lot of them were at 90 degrees flat when a Nazi swastika is titled at 45 degrees. Otherwise a lot of these Nazis are Buddhists.
Interesting anime, I’ll have to add it to my list of shows to watch when I’m drunk with my friends. One hell of a cliffhanger at the end there though!
I know I’m being horribly anal retentive but as a Gundam and Macross fan who’s spent way too much damn time designing custom mecha for both shows, and writing out spec-sheets for them, Gundam and Macross are part of the REAL ROBOT genre, which as silly as that sounds, differs from Super Robots like Mazinger, Gurren Lagann, and Tetsugin 28-go/Gigantor, and as awesome as Go Nagai is, it’s really Mitsuteru Yokoyama and Tetsugin 28-go/Gigantor that kicked off the Super Robot genre. Just sayin’
Gundam still had some super robot-ish elements, and it blurs the lines when it comes to Newtype-custom suits. Though in that case the mecha themselves aren’t super powered, super power is just being channeled through them. The line between “real robot” and “super robot” can be a rather thin one.
Yeah, Gundam sort of straddles the line when it comes to Real Robot vs Super Robot. Some series tend to lean one way or the other. Wing and G Gundam both kind of lean towards Super Robot, while something like 08th MS Team is clearly more Real Robot.
If you want a true real robot genre i say watch VOTOM or Patalabor, both have rather realistic robots (Patalabor more than VOTOM, but then again VOTOM’s Super Robot Esque element is something thath s to do more with Pilots than the Robot itself)
I think Sage’s talking about the birth of the Real Robot genre from the Super Robot titles, which came first. It’s indeed true that Macross wouldn’t have happened without Gundam, and Gundam wouldn’t exist without the bevvy of Super Robot anime and manga that came before, including Mazinger Z.
I would say Nagai is a sexist but then again with so many gore that would be hypocritical, is the old why sex is more scandalous violent doble standar, just that in this case is sexism vs cruelty
he made Iron Virgin Jun(which I’m sure Sage will cover its OVA sooner or later) .It stars a strong girl with an amazonian body running away from the arranged marriage her parents set to her.Sure,it’s still full of fanservice and bold humour, but still…
I sad that that is considered a above the standard in japan
C’mon, Sage! You should get out more 🙂 A large hunk of a man, with finely-worked muscles, dyed hair and bespoke haircut, brand-name clothing, and every single woman wanting him, must be gay. It’s just how the world works. Remember that this is in Japan, where jocks rarely conform to the handsome and abusive American stereotype.
Edit: And he’s tanned! Since the school is in full swing, and this should be in Kanto, chances are he goes to a solarium, which adds even more gayness points.
